Knox Presbyterian

Location: Cheviot
Denomination:
Presbyterian
Built:
1952

The first church was built in 1896 but burnt down in 1955. The second present church was built in 1952.

The main feature of the church is its beautiful stone facade and it is also a testament to the spirit of the community. The locals organised working bees to gather and wash the stones from the nearby Hurunui river.

In 2018 the Presbyterian church decided to put the building up for sale. The community, like the generation before, rallied to save the church.  It was saved and bought by the Cheviot Community Centre Trust.

This church is still available as a place of worship for protestants and catholics alike.

This church was built by the community and it remains because of the community.
