St George’s Anglican Church
Location: Motupiko
Denomination: Anglican
Built: 1897
Constructed so that 32 Anglican Families who lived in Motupiko can fellowship together. Now this historic building is entrusted to a descendant of one of the families, the Quinneys, a local family in Motupiko.
Mark described the significance of this place in an article in Nelson Weekly.
“It’s a piece of local history. It’s been around for over 100 years, and I’m hoping it will be a focal point for the area…My Parents are buried there, my parents are buried there, and I’ll be buried there,”
The Church no longer holds regular services but it is a welcome place for locals, visitors, weddings and funerals.
